After suffering 1-0 defeat during the first leg of the U23 African Cup of Nations against Sudan at Omburduman, Nigeria’s Dream Team VII on Tuedsay bounced back to victory and secured a qualification ticket to the competition.
The Nigeria side dominated the game from the blast of the whistle and pegged back the Sudanese side who were on back foot, it was Mainz 05 striker Taiwo Awoniyi that broke the dealock earlier in the game with an header after Ibrahim Sunusi bullet shot was parried by the opponent goalkeeper, SPACEFM reports
Akwa United winger Ndifreke Effiong stole the show as he fired brace in the 27th and 45th minute of the game and ensured that Nigeria returned to the locker room with a comfortable 3-0 lead.
The second stanza resumed with Nigeria still dictating the pace of the game and it paid off when substitute Sunday Faleye netted the 4th goal in the 67th minute and Sunusi completed the routs with 5th goal in the 71st minute of the game.
The victory ensured that Nigeria progressed into the competition proper with a 5-1 aggregates win.
Egypt will host U23 African Cup of Nation from November 8-22, 2019.
